One of our few possesions of value was our cars, so they were a big deal to us. They mad us mobile and proud so pardon the over abundance a "car-ness".

Z-28 now with vendor painted - looks better!

Taking for a spin by the base airport

One day Dan was driving us to work on a rainy day - the accelorator stuck and his Cougar picked out a lone telephone pull to hit. Well, you can see who won.

The deal sealed. Dan Richison was my bud and thank god we had the same kinda crazy humor.

Another view of the Z, me - Steve Garson and the barracks in the back. My room was on the top 3rd floor corner with a nice view of the parade field and I think Mt. Ranier also.

Tail of the bird. Our jobs was to tie them down inside the belly of the plane - it was quite the site.

The load crew! Red, ?, Me, and another shop mate from my sheet metal shop. He was from San Francisco area also and we got along great. Would play B-Ball during shop breaks. Here at McChord we would play cards, Trump, while we waited for another load.

Me with the big birds.

Dan Richison with the Z at the hangar where we worked with Cobra Helicopters in the back.

With good humor we tried just polishing it up - nope - still looked bad. I ended up repairing it for him with my new learned experience as a body man.

The Z in the parking lot with Mt. Ranier in the background.

The Z in front of 411th Transportation Company, Ft. Lewis, WA. Our emblem barely visible on the sign behind me. We held our formations out in front in the street. Guards blocked off the street entrances.

-----------------------------------------

One of our "exciting" duties was to get up early in the freezing morning and load tanks, etc on C-130s and C-5As up at McChord AFB. Map

Me - Steve Garson looking quite chirper for freezing my butt off.

Jet off in the distance.

Pair of jets.

Smitty we heard later had gone out close to the flight line closer to one of the planes to grab a smoke. With seconds he was surrounded by MPs and pinned to the ground. They didn't mess around.
