Went on leave to California for the first time since going into the Army.

...4:30am. Fairview Dr., El Cerrito. Must have knocked on Chuck Perlow's bedroom window. That's him sleep walkin'. I guess I had to show off my new car. Hey, I was 20 years old - it was a big deal to me. Big step up, my previous, 1st car, was a 1966 Corvair.
Where John worked at a UC Berkeley testing facility near Point Richmond. 4,000,000 lb. compression machine. They also did fire resistance testing.
By San Rafael Bridge near Pt. Richmond. Initially just John and I out early crabbing. Then Bob Stallings (the other former roommate with John C.) came by with his mobile party - his girlfriend Kris and her friend. I'm teasing Kris with the live crab I had caught.

The long trip back to Ft. Lewis, Washington. Mt. Shasta - click to see enlargement. I think I would do the trip in about 11 hours. A would race other cars along the way to stay awake.

Approx. 1 week at 45J2T ...not much work so begin OJT 90 days in Airframe Repair mostly on Hueys UH (Utility Helicoptor).
MOS: Airframe Repair 68G20 ...was accepted as 2ndary MOS.

John Crimmins my former roomie in Pinole. His dad lived in El Sobrante and his Japanese mom lived in Japantown in San Francisco. He had a 1976 Firebird. I remember he had been in the gold country driving in the evening. A deer bolted out in front of him on the highway, died and almost totaled his front end.

If I remember right a got a speeding ticket just across the Oregon border. He was hiding just in front of median overpass support - I didn't have a chance.
