- More Activity Downtown May Spawn More Interest

When people complain
to George Fernando about downtown Fairfield, he tells them to go to downtown
Vallejo for awhile and get some perspective.
The owner of Redi Office Emporium and Services and chairman of the Fairfield
Downtown Association moved his business from downtown Vallejo to downtown
Fairfield almost three years ago. The drug activity, prostitution and
crime in downtown Vallejo prompted him to leave, even though his rent
is higher here, he said.
The move to Fairfield increased Fernando's walk-in sales from 2 percent
of total sales to 30 percent, he said. That has more than made up for
the slightly higher overhead.
"As far as I'm concerned, this is heaven compared to where I came from,"
he said. People tend to compare Fairfield to towns such as Napa and Sonoma,
looking at all the things it lacks, he said. But they fail to see all
the things downtown Fairfield has to be proud of, and all the potential
it has yet to realize.
Indeed, most agreed the future here appears brighter than it has in some
time. For more on the article click on the link above.
