... Fruitcake started in ancient Egypt, later the Romans and then in the middle ages it was soaked in alcohol which could preserve it up to 1 year...back when they didn't have refridgerators. Monostaries would make it because they had the ingredients. In America our fruitcakes derives from England's plum cake. Cherries and pineapple colored green for christmas color. So why has fruitcake suffered such an image problem? Why does noone buy one for themself? It seems to be only bought for someone else!
