Compliance Audits

Compliance Audits involve site visits to client facilities to conduct in-depth analysis of regulatory safety functions, including safety and training records. The hazards and exposures found are confidentially reported to clients in a hazard abatement format, listing the hazards from the most serious to the least serious. The abatement format includes a specific reference to the OSHA or EPA standard violated, provides an orderly outline for clients to enter the person(s) responsible for correcting each hazard, the date for accomplishment and/or reasons for extended correction dates.

This enables clients to meet OSHA/EPA mandates that state hazard corrections must be accomplished within a reasonable time frame consistent with the seriousness of their imminent danger to workers. There must also be a legitimate cause for extended dates - such as awaiting the delivery of necessary material. Based ultimately on the size and number of employees, safety audits may be accomplished in as little as one day on-site plus the time to research and prepare client reports, or longer depending on the size and complexity of the organization.

Increasingly, both OSHA, EPA, and states are favoring employers who have well-developed and managed general safety programs. The programs tell OSHA/EPA of management commitment to employee safety, equal in importance to profitability.

Certain elements must exist in the program for maximum favorable impact on enforcement agencies. These include identification of responsible managers/executives, employee involvement, regular self-audits, an active Safety Committee who oversees and regularly improves the program and a disciplinary response for willful disregard by employees.
